He has, however, been nominated twice before: the last time being at the 1998 Academy Awards for\u00a0<em>4 Little Girls<\/em>&#8216; best documentary feature nomination. Prior to that, Lee earned a best original screenplay nod for <em>Do the Right Thing<\/em> at the 1990 Oscars.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/spike-lee-talks-helming-music-video-killers-land-free-1176134\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> <em>The Hollywood Reporter <\/em>earlier this month that\u00a0<em>BlacKkKlansman&#8217;s <\/em>awards \u2014 which started with the Grand Prix at last year&#8217;s Cannes \u2014 is just &#8220;the cherry on top.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe goal is not to be nominated. The goal is to make films of impact, and this film definitely has,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m not trying to be some grandiose motherfucker like, \u2018Oh, I don\u2019t need awards.\u2019 I\u2019m not saying that.
