DETROIT (AP) \u2014 The Latest on the funeral for soul legend Aretha Franklin (all times local):<\/p>\n

10:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

The bishop who officiated Aretha Franklin\u2019s funeral is apologizing to Ariana Grande for how he touched her onstage and a joke he made about her name.<\/p>\n

Bishop Charles H. Ellis III led Franklin\u2019s funeral on Friday and awkwardly greeted Grande on stage after she performed \u201c(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.\u201d<\/p>\n

Images of the moment showed Ellis\u2019 hand holding Grande well above her waist, with his fingers pressing against one side of her chest.<\/p>\n

Ellis tells The Associated Press that while \u201cit would never be my intention to touch anyone\u2019s breast,\u201d perhaps he \u201ccrossed a border.\u201d<\/p>\n

He says he did not want to be a distraction on a day that belonged to Franklin.<\/p>\n

Ellis also apologized to Grande, her fans and Hispanic community for making a joke about seeing her name on the program and thinking it was a new item on the Taco Bell menu.<\/p>\n

Aretha Franklin is in her final resting place.<\/p>\n

The casket of the Queen of Soul was interred Friday evening in a mausoleum at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit, just over two weeks after she died of pancreatic cancer at age 76.<\/p>\n

Franklin\u2019s loved ones arrived at the cemetery after a 10-mile processional through her hometown from Greater Grace Temple, where an eight-hour service of songs, sermons and speeches was held earlier in the day.<\/p>\n

Woodlawn is also home to the graves of Franklin\u2019s father, two more of his daughters, and civil rights luminary Rosa Parks.<\/p>\n

The interment ends the formal mourning for Franklin, who was dressed in four different outfits for open-casket viewings in the days leading up to the funeral.<\/p>\n

She was buried in a gold dress and sparkling pumps.<\/p>\n

Stevie Wonder wowed with his harmonica skills and then brought the remaining mourners at Aretha Franklin\u2019s lengthy funeral to their feet with a moving version of \u201cAs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The choir, Franklin\u2019s family, preachers and remaining guests swayed as Wonder played the classic tune in honor of his old friend.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reason we are here today is love,\u201d Wonder said in remarks.<\/p>\n

Before Wonder performed, Gladys Knight sang \u201cYou\u2019ll Never Walk Alone\u201d and \u201cBridge Over Troubled Water.\u201d As Franklin\u2019s coffin left the church, Jennifer Holliday sang \u201cClimbing Higher Mountains.\u201d Others who performed over the eight-hour ceremony included Faith Hill, Fantasia Barrino, Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande and Chaka Khan.<\/p>\n

\u201cGod bless, Aretha,\u201d Wonder said at the end of his song. \u201cThe joy is in knowing that she will have an eternal life of bliss.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former NBA star Isiah Thomas eulogized Aretha Franklin as someone who offered her advice and friendship and someone who \u201cshifted the universe.\u201d<\/p>\n

He laughed that in the week since Franklin died, her music is being sung everywhere, forcing people in restaurants to stop eating and spontaneously dance.<\/p>\n

Thomas recalled how, as a young man, Franklin\u2019s music soothed his mother when the family faced challenges, and later smiled when the soul icon would attend his Detroit Pistons games and sit near his mom.<\/p>\n

Said Thomas: \u201cShe found a way to inspire all of us with hope, love and dreams through her music. Her voice found a way to help this nation soothe and deal with its troubled past.\u201d<\/p>\n

Record giant Clive Davis remembered Aretha Franklin as a woman with a thirst for knowledge, as a \u201ctrue Renaissance woman\u201d \u2014 and one with a streak of perfectionism.<\/p>\n

Davis, who oversaw Franklin\u2019s music for decades, including such later hits as \u201cWho\u2019s Zoomin\u2019 Who?\u201d and \u201cI Knew You Were Waiting (For Me),\u201d said once Franklin committed to a project, she\u2019d go into \u201cAretha mode,\u201d privately rehearsing and preparing so intensely that it was rare for her to need more than a few takes in the studio.<\/p>\n

Said Davis: \u201cAretha\u2019s voice will be influencing others, literally, for centuries to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davis recalled the time Franklin surprised him when he was getting a lifetime achievement award in New York by showing up onstage in a tutu.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was the Queen of Soul, accompanied by members of the City Center Ballet Company, she doing well-rehearsed pirouettes and dancing with most impressive agility and dignity. It was wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Rev. Jesse Jackson told Aretha Franklin to \u201csleep on\u201d and \u201cI\u2019ll see you in the morning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jackson, who has Parkinson\u2019s disease and is in his late 70s, spoke slowly as he stood in front of the gathered mourners at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit on Friday.<\/p>\n

He led them in a prayer of thanks for Aretha and her minister father, asking that God make all in the church \u201cbetter, not bitter,\u201d by the time the day is over.<\/p>\n

Jackson said \u201cAretha\u2019s not lost, we know where she is.\u201d<\/p>\n

He praised her for the funding she gave to The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and for singing through tear gas during the civil rights fight.<\/p>\n

He said, however, that it was a shame that the lines to mourn famous people are long, but lines to vote are so short, lamenting that President Donald Trump won Michigan by so few votes.<\/p>\n

Jackson said if anyone who leaves the funeral and isn\u2019t registered to vote \u201cdishonors Aretha.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bill Clinton memorialized Aretha Franklin as a woman with \u201cbreathtaking talent\u201d who kept on charming audiences despite her illness.<\/p>\n

The former president recalled being an \u201cAretha groupie\u201d all his life and being thrilled to meet her backstage at her last public performance, a benefit in Harlem for Elton John\u2019s AIDS charity last year. She was \u201cgaunt\u201d but went on to perform for 45 minutes.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow you doing, baby?\u201d she asked him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m doing better now,\u201d Clinton replied.<\/p>\n

The former president also asked the audience to forgive him, saying he was happy that Franklin\u2019s casket was still open when he arrived because he just had to see what she was wearing.<\/p>\n

Clinton said, \u201cI wonder what my friend has got on today. I wanted to see what the girl was carrying out,\u201d to a wave of laughs and claps from the crowd. Franklin was wearing a gold gown, her fourth outfit of the week.<\/p>\n

He ended his time by playing Franklin\u2019s \u201cThink\u201d on his iPhone into the mic. \u201cIt\u2019s the key to freedom!\u201d Clinton said.<\/p>\n

Aretha Franklin\u2019s family members have paid tribute to a woman who cooked for them, gossiped with them and passed on her gifts to them.<\/p>\n

Victorie Franklin, a granddaughter, said at the Queen of Soul\u2019s funeral that she will always cherish being part of Franklin\u2019s legacy, recognizing parts of her grandmother in her.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing sounded better to me than my grandmother\u2019s voice,\u201d said Victorie. \u201cHer voice brought peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grandson Jordan directed his remarks directly to Aretha, frequently stopping to\u00a0fight back tears. \u201cI\u2019m sad today, because I\u2019m losing my friend, but I know the imprint she left on this world can never be removed. You showed the world God\u2019s love, and there\u2019s nothing more honorable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aretha\u2019s son, Edward, sang \u201cMercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)\u201d by Marvin Gaye.<\/p>\n

Former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush didn\u2019t attend Aretha Franklin\u2019s funeral but they sent messages to honor the Queen of Soul.<\/p>\n

Obama, in a statement read by the Rev. Al Sharpton, hailed Franklin for reflecting \u201cvery best of the American story.\u201d Her music, he said, \u201ccaptured some of our deepest human desires, namely affection and respect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bush\u2019s statement, read by Franklin friend Barbara Sampson, called Franklin \u201ca woman of achievement with a deep character and a loving heart\u201d who made \u201clasting contributions to American music with her gospel-inspired style and distinctive voice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former President Bill Clinton was in attendance and is slated to speak later.<\/p>\n

Ariana Grande and the Rev. Al Sharpton have memorialized Aretha Franklin in words and song.<\/p>\n

Sharpton recalled Franklin\u2019s activist side, noting she raised money for the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and created \u201cthe soundtrack of the civil rights movement.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe gave us pride. She gave us a regal bar to reach,\u201d Sharpton said. \u201cShe represented the best in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sharpton also took aim at President Donald Trump for saying that Franklin once worked for him. \u201cShe performed for you,\u201d he said. \u201cShe worked for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier, Ariana Grande sang \u201c(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bishop Charles H. Ellis said after the song that he felt old because when he saw \u201cAriana Grande on the program, I thought it was a new something at Taco Bell,\u201d but said he now owed her some respect.<\/p>\n

Faith Hill honored Aretha Franklin by singing \u201cWhat a Friend We Have in Jesus\u201d during the Queen of Soul\u2019s funeral.<\/p>\n

Hill\u2019s performance got Bill Clinton, the Rev. Jess Jackson and the Rev. Al Sharpton up on their feet. Many in the audience of the Greater Grace Temple in Detroit also stood as Hill belted out the hymn.<\/p>\n

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan also took to the podium to announce a proposal to rename the city\u2019s waterfront Chene Park after Franklin.<\/p>\n

The mayor said: \u201cWhen Aretha Franklin sang, it sounded like the voice of Detroit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aretha Franklin\u2019s body has been covered in shimmering fabric and her casket has been closed, with shouts of, \u201cHallelujah!\u201d coming from the audience.<\/p>\n

Family members surrounded the Queen of Soul\u2019s gold casket as it closed on Friday morning, marking the formal start of her funeral.<\/p>\n

The Rev. Jesse Jackson comforted actress Cicely Tyson and Franklin\u2019s family members comforted one another.<\/p>\n

Bishop Charles H. Ellis of Greater Grace Temple in Detroit began speaking nearly two hours after the ceremony had been slated to begin.<\/p>\n

The church\u2019s choir sang \u201cWalk in the Light\u201d as Ellis encouraged the congregation to sing along.<\/p>\n

Ellis said, \u201cIt took a little time to get in here, but I believe the queen wouldn\u2019t have had it any other way.\u201d He said everyone present would get a program, and joked they were likely to be available soon on eBay.<\/p>\n

The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin has been honored at London\u2019s Buckingham Palace on the day of her funeral in Detroit.<\/p>\n

The official residence of Queen Elizabeth II became an unlikely setting for a rendition of Franklin\u2019s \u201cRespect\u201d played by the Welsh Guards Band during the popular Changing of the Guard ceremony Friday.<\/p>\n

The soul music may have startled tourists expecting British pomp and ceremony Friday from the Welsh Guards, who were wearing traditional red military jackets topped by high bearskin hats.<\/p>\n

The Army tweeted that it wanted to pay tribute to a \u201cmusical icon and inspiration.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Queen of Soul\u2019s funeral is underway.<\/p>\n

A processional of Aretha Franklin\u2019s family and other loved ones is filling the aisles of the Greater Grace Temple on Friday morning in her hometown of Detroit.<\/p>\n

The church\u2019s choir sang Franklin\u2019s \u201cSay a Little Prayer\u201d and her version of \u201cBridge Over Troubled Water\u201d as mourners arrived. When the diva\u2019s family arrived, the song was \u201cYou Are The Source of My Strength.\u201d<\/p>\n

They filed past and paid their respects at Franklin\u2019s open casket, where they saw her wearing a sparkling full-length gold dress with sequined heels \u2014 her fourth and final outfit of the week.<\/p>\n

Many in the pews ignored repeated calls of no phones permitted to take selfies with former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton as they filed in.<\/p>\n

Ariana Grande and her fiance, Pete Davidson, walked arm-in-arm and chatted with dignitaries like Bill Clinton before the funeral for Aretha Franklin.<\/p>\n

The singer, who is scheduled to perform at the ceremony, and the \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d cast member entered Detroit\u2019s Greater Grace Temple smiling on Friday and posed for photos. They even shared a brief kiss on the stage.<\/p>\n

Others from the world of show biz seen in the church included Jennifer Hudson, Faith Hill, Tyler Perry and Jenifer Lewis.<\/p>\n

Mourners got a glimpse of the Queen of Soul before her funeral Friday during an open casket viewing at the Greater Grace Temple. The gold dress is the fourth outfit Franklin has worn during a week of events leading up to her funeral.<\/p>\n

Franklin was dressed head to heel in red for her first public viewing on Tuesday, a nod to her membership in the sorority Delta Sigma Theta. She wore a baby blue dress on Wednesday and a rose gold gown for a viewing Thursday at the Detroit church where her father was the longtime pastor.<\/p>\n
