For the past decade, Method Manand Redman have hyped up the sequel to their classic stoner comedy How High, but now it’s all but certain they will not appear in the new made-for-TV flick starring Lil Yachty.
According to TMZ’s sources, the rappers won’t be reviving their roles as Silas and Jamal, despite discussing the sequel as recently as last year. TMZ reports this new iteration is going to be extremely different from the 2001 original, which could contribute to their absence.
Complex has reached out to an MTV rep for comment.
How High 2 was written by Family Guy writers Artie Johann and Shawn Ries, and follows “two young but business-savvy stoners” trying to launch their on-demand munchies delivery company. As they “embark on a pot-filled odyssey through Atlanta to find their missing weed,” the two potheads “uncover a vast government conspiracy.”
If TMZ’s report is true, it’s certainly disheartening considering how much Redman has invested in the potential follow up. “I wrote that shit on 2/9/14, the story board, plot summary, I can’t even show y’all that right now,” he explained to MTV News.“The How High 2, hopefully we could do that under Universal, if not, we gonna do our own movie under our own shit and it will be heavily marijuana related.”
There’s still potential for a cameo, but filming did begin in Atlanta this month. The new movie will be led by Yachty and DC Young Fly, with Lil Baby, Alyssa Goss, DeRay Davis, Mary Lynn Rajskub, NeNe Leakes, Tiny Harris, Cynthia Bailey, and Shekinah Jo also making appearances.
