BMW has released specs and drivable models to automotive press for the 2019 M850i. The 8 Series was created in the early 90’s chassis code (E31) as the Ultimate Ultimate driving machine for BMW. It was originally available with a V8 or V12. It was the first mass produced road car to offer a V12 engine mated to a 6 speed manual transmission.

Its design was a nod to the legendary M1 BMW racecar from the 70’s but still looked miles beyond anything else German manufacturers were producing at the time. Though problematic mechanically and electrically it’s still loved, collected and held in legendary regard since the end of its production in 1999.

20 years later BMW is hopeful the newest 8 Series will continue legendary 8’s allure and mystique. Chassis Code G14 (Convertible), G15 (the hardtop) and G16 (Four Door Gran Coupé). The new 8 reaches 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds powered by the 4.4 liter Twin Turbo V8 from last years  M5, connected to all four wheels via the 8 speed ZF transmission and XDrive.

BMW dealers are receiving the first models produced for presales this month. Don’t expect to see any on the lot for public sale until late December. MSRP starts at $113,000.
