This Detroit-Native won a scholarship to New York design school. While there he began working for Charles James.<\/p>\n<p>In 1957, Arthur became the 1st African-American to run a design room on 7th Avenue. While he worked at Bobby Brooks, he begun to sell those designs at stores like Saks Fifth, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman and Lord &amp; Taylor.<\/p>\n<p>In the early 1960s, He opened his first store in New York and became a designer for many celebs.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4389\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lovepeacenslander.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/D60AB879-04CB-4F4B-A2DA-584C90A9AA9A.jpeg?resize=428%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"D60AB879-04CB-4F4B-A2DA-584C90A9AA9A.jpeg\" width=\"428\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He has mentored other African-American designers, like Willi Smith and Elena Braith.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4390\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lovepeacenslander.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/A5897F74-E1C4-4EDE-9BC3-E8D9658E6C0F.jpeg?resize=428%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"A5897F74-E1C4-4EDE-9BC3-E8D9658E6C0F.jpeg\" width=\"428\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Arthur Mcgee is refereed to as the Grandfather of Fashion.
